Letter to the Editor: Not for long

Marco Island, fourth in the world, first in the U.S. – not for long.

Trip Advisor just released the ratings showing that Marco is the number four vacation island in the world and first in the U.S., totally beating out all of the Hawaiian Islands, which did not rate a single spot in the top 10 list.

However, if we continue getting overcrowded, over populated, and over commercialized, we will fall further than Hawaii has.

The primary thing most people say, and Trip Advisor advertises, is that people come here for the peace, quiet, tranquility and unspoiled beauty.

These things will quickly fall by the wayside, just as they did in Hawaii, if we become the “Marriott Island.” Overcrowding, with all the traffic, rudeness and crowds, will without a doubt be a side effect of the type of commercialism that the Marriott expansion and things like the CVS PUD and the Rose Marina expansion will bring.

Keep this island paradise just that – a paradise, where people can come to get away from all the hustle, bustle, rude people, and noise.
