A Bonita Springs woman who fell asleep at a traffic light in North Naples was arrested Sunday morning for DUI.

Jody Jean McDonald, 56, of the 27000 block Pinecrest Lane, was charged with DUI, third violation in more than 10 years.

A Collier sheriff’s deputy saw McDonald slumped back against the headrest, apparently unconscious, in her silver Jeep at the intersection of U.S. 41 North and Immokalee Road, according to reports. The deputy pulled behind the car and activated his lights, according to the report.

McDonald was unresponsive to the deputy’s lights, according to the report, but woke up when the deputy knocked on her window. The deputy asked her to put her vehicle in park and roll down the window. According to the report, McDonald rolled down her window and released the brake, not realizing the car was in drive. The Jeep began rolling into the intersection against a red light.

The deputy yelled at McDonald to stop her car, but she did nothing but stare straight ahead, according to the report. The deputy jumped into McDonald’s car through the window and threw the car into park, according to police reports.

The deputy asked McDonald to perform field sobriety exercises and she agreed, but repeatedly pushed her air conditioning on/off button thinking it was the ignition, according to the police report.
