Letter to the Editor: Courage and leadership?

I wrote an opinion on the events leading up to the city manager hiring; then received Calvin Peck’s letter, indicating his voluntarily withdrawal; then I was asked by Marco council to submit a revision.

Appearances are not always what they seem. However, I think the manner of the voting process reflected poorly on Marco.

It was demeaning to ask our council to vote at least three times, and to explain the reasons for those votes; and insulting to ask the candidates to sit through that display.

It may have been a coincidence that the recess was called, and that Peck chose that as the opportune time to withdraw. What prompted that decision? He had been in the lead.

I expected our council to vote for the best candidate to lead Marco, and not be swayed by going home early or the threat of staying all night.

If Peck could not endure this single council meeting, complete with all its antics; then he would never have lasted even the first year as our City Manager.

I hope that Hernstadt has the fortitude to stand stalwart, and be the needed “wall” and leadership between council and the other city employees.

I wonder if the new City Manager understands the Bee's Nest he is headed into. Any Bets on how long he may last? Council isn't running this town like grown professionals. Instead, its more like a group of teens with Hormonal imbalance...

Same old story, He will last some time, retire with a nice check, and enjoy the time he will be on the island. In the mean time nothing will be done to clean up the mess that has been created on this little island.
