PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Emily Lines, First Baptist Academy

First Baptist Academy’s Emily Lines is the real deal in girls basketball.

The Naples Daily News Girls Basketball Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013, she didn’t slow down any this season.

It is the reason for her being recognized in Player Spotlight.

This season she surpassed 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds at First Baptist Academy.

Mom and coach, Jennifer Lines, said, “Although our team has not had the same level of success this season, Emily has continued to lead us in scoring and rebounding and became our primary ballhandler.”

Last season the Lady Lions went to the Class 2A regional finals. This season the team was 11-15, losing Tuesday night to St. John Neumann in the Class 3A district semifinals, 56-47. Lines scored 32 points.

Emily Lines said there was no way she could have scored her 2,000th point without her teammates over her five years of playing varsity.

Jennifer Lines said, “Emily’s statistics were up this season in every major category, even though Emily is the one girl on the team that everyone tries to stop.

“Her leadership has helped develop our younger players and her consistency has been the foundation for our overall improvement as a team this year.”

Emily, a junior, said the season has been challenging when only three players retuned from last year’s team.

“We have worked really hard and improved with each game,” she said. “I am very proud of how far we’ve come. It has been fun being part of developing our program at FBA, which includes a lot of special memories.”
