How do you feel about all the spitting during Major League Baseball games?
Gene Stillwell, Resident
"Well, two things. One, I think it’s a dirty habit, and two, I never did learn how to do it. All the guys seemed like they could spit pretty good. There’s not much difference between spitting and scratching your crotch when you’re up there. They’re gonna do what they’re gonna do. It’s part of the game ... monkey see, monkey do. The kids see it, and they just follow. If you’re standing next to the person, you could get the overflow."
Dawn Snyder, Resident
"I watch baseball. Spitting is disgusting. Kids are watching. It’s totally poor for role modeling, but I guess it’s all part of the sport, huh? It’s traditional ... the chew in the mouth and the spitting. It’s that intimidation thing. It’s probably unhealthy for everybody who’s stepping in their spit. I don’t have strong opinions about whether or not it should be stopped, but I just don’t want my Little Leaguers doing it. They’re not allowed to wear jewelry either. They don’t get to wear all their chains."
Ashley Aull, Miss Kansas, 2006
"I don’t know why they do it. Why don’t they just ... not? Or put it in the trash can in the dugout? It’s gross. Someone could slide into it on bases, and who knows what diseases they have. I don’t think they’d ever pass a law (banning spitting) because none of the baseball players would ever want it that way. They wouldn’t be able to convince enough players not to do it. Maybe they should have a spittoon so they all spit in one place."
