Answers to the Question

How would you feel about establishing a high school on Marco?

"An island high school wouldn’t have enough space, and it wouldn’t be as competitive for sports. I don’t think we’d have our own football field or soccer or baseball fields, and we’d be dependent on either the YMCA or Mackle Park. I’m not going to Lely; I’m going to the Community School (of Naples). So there are definitely other options. But, as long as you’re focused, you could still do good at Lely, so I don’t think it’s that big of a problem."

"I think it would be good to have a high school here, because kids have to go to Lely, a D school. Also, they have to wake up really early in the morning to go to other schools, so if there was one on the island, it wouldn’t be that long of a drive. Some kids do well at Lely, but there are some that get hooked up with bad people. A Marco school would be small, and not a lot of kids would go there, but it would be a good choice as a second option (to other available schools in the area)."

"I think I’ll either go to Lely, or Barron Collier, possibly. Going to Lely wouldn’t bother me, because if you’re going to do well, you’ll do well no matter which school you go to. I would know what to do and what not to do. The advantage of a school on Marco would be not having to travel so far."
