Melanie Gustafson, of Project HOPE, who has been helping at an American Red Cross center set up in a church in Lee County, smiles at Desiree O'Brien, 3, of Biloxi, Miss., at a picnic sponsored by Chico's at Lakes Regional Park in Lee County. O'Brien, her mother, and her mother's fiance lost their home in Biloxi and are now living in a hotel in Fort Myers. Gustafson met O'Brien at the center when her mother was trying to get assistance one day. 'I was her little buddy there,' she said,' so whenever I see her, (I am) a friendly face, someone she can trust.'
