Donations needed — Letter carriers Naymi Borrero, from left, Eliott Mascoop and Patty Marsh show the types of items they have been getting for the annual food drive. The drive is part of a national event, the National Letter Carriers Food Drive. Letter carriers all over the country will pick up unopened, nonperishable food items at homes on Saturday, May 13. The Marco Island Post Office on Elkcam Circle has a large basket for those who are moving back home for the summer, before May 13, to place their unused goods at any time. Residents can place food items by their mailbox on any day, but the major pickup is on May 13. Collier Harvest will sort, store and distribute the items to more than 60 agencies in the county who help the needy. A year ago 225,000 pounds of food were contributed in Collier County and 71 million pounds across the country.
