From the safety of the road, Tracy Whitman of Palm Beach Gardens shines a spotlight on the water to illuminate alligators for her husband, Jake, and brother-in-law, Steve Whitman of Lake Okeechobee. With the aid of the light, Steve was able to paddle his canoe up to an alligator and hit it with a harpoon. Because Steve broke his knife on the first catch of the night, he improvised by using a flathead screwdriver and a hammer to kill his two alligators.
