Deputy Mark Itzko, center, of the traffic unit of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, stands in a hole caused by a water main break on Alico Road just east of U.S. 41 on Tuesday evening. The main ruptured about 3 p.m. after crews struck a water pipe while digging under a road. Lee sheriff’s deputies, along with firefighters from the San Carlos Park Fire Department, temporarily closed both lanes of Alico Road for several hours while crews worked to fix the broken water main and fill the hole.
