Atedra Elliton, 20, gets the first ultrasound of her pregnancy at the Birthing Center of South Florida in Florida City in April. Licensed midwife Joni McCann runs the center, where in the second trimester of a woman's pregnancy she receives a video called "The First Years Last Forever," part of the Teach More/Love More program for pre-K education. Once the child is born, another packet is given to the mother that includes a bus pass to the local library and a children's book called "My Numbers, Mis Numeros, Chif Mwen Yo," a book of numbers in English, Spanish and Creole.
