Early 1970s: 'Tiglons' at the zoo —The late Lawrence "Jungle Larry" Tetzlaff's love for the world-famous "tiglons" is obvious in this publicity photo for his"African Safari" attraction, which opened in 1969 on the grounds of the former Caribbean Gardens — now known as the Naples Zoo. The striking cats, the cross between a lioness mother and a tiger father, were born on Sept. 21, 1969. The cross-breeding is no longer done.
