Black vulture
Chunkier and shorter-tailed than the turkey vulture, black vultures can often be seen boldly feeding on carrion along roadsides in large gangs. This common dark bird may be distinguished from our other vultures by its more flat-winged flight profile, silvery wing tips and quick snappy wing beats. It locates carrion by sight.
