Florida is the only place in North America where you can see a snail kite, a Central and South American raptor formerly known as the "Everglade Kite." Males are a deep slate gray color and females are mottled black and buff. Feeding on aquatic apple snails, the future of this Everglades denizen is closely tied to water politics.
