Red-tailed hawk
One of North America's most widespread birds of prey, this hawk is marked by its characteristic rusty-red tail. This bulky raptor of mostly open country has fared better than many in the face of human development and often hunts near highways. Though opportunistic, it feeds mostly on small mammals.
