At Residents Beach, stone benches line Residents Walk. One is a memorial to Patrick A. Hoey, whose brother, John, lives on the island part time. Patrick Hoey lived in Middletown, N.J. and was executive manager of tunnels, bridges and terminals for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He died as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
