The afternoon exercise, which included practice with the jaws of life, was part of the Police and Fire Youth Academy, sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation. During the week-long course, students learn the basics of police work and firefighting and take part in a variety of activities associated with the jobs, including evidence recovery, fire extinguisher operation and CPR certification.
