Tens of thousands of tourists fled the beaches of the Mayan Riviera on Monday as monstrous Hurricane Dean roared toward the ancient ruins and modern oil installations of the Yucatan Peninsula. Monday evening the National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Dean had been upgraded to a catgeory 5 storm.
