Aaron Ladurini, 17, of Ormond Beach, Fla., on March 26, 2007 earned Boy Scouts of America's highest award, Eagle Scout. His credentials will be presented at a special Court of Honor later this summer.
Aaron began his scouting career in Marco Island's Cub Scout Pack 234 as a Tiger Cub. He earned the highest rank in cub scouting, the Arrow of Light, as a WEBELOS II scout.
He crossed over from cub scouts into boy scout Troop 65 under the leadership of Steve Martin. Transferring to Troop 234 of Marco Island he continued on the trail to Eagle Scout. The family moved to Port Orange, Fla., where he transerred to Troop 441 under the leadership of Gary Sault. There he climbed the mountain from First Class scout to Eagle Scout. He was inducted into the brotherhood of the Order of the Arrow. He earned the required and elective merit badges and completed a service project that he developed and gave leaderhip to supporting scouts, friends and family.
He designed a "Scouting for Pet Food" project that brought in 1,400 pounds of pet food for Animal Rescue Need and Intervention (ARNI). ARNI is a rescue organization in Daytona Beach, Fla., that had its food supply depleted due to the increased animal rescue population after Hurricane Katrina victims left hundreds of pets stranded.
During his presentation of his accopmlishments to the members of the Eagle Board of Review he was told by the chairman Mike Bosse, a New Smyrna Beach Fire Marshall, that his presentation was the "best he's seen in five years."
Aaron was asked by the members of the board how he planned on giving back to scouting what he received. Aaron's response was he "wants to be a mentor to scouts as they prepare themselves to meet the Eagle Board of Review."
Aaron has plans to become an adult leader later this month as he will be turning 18 years old and serve as one of the adult leaders/chaperones for the troop's summer encampment in July. They have been planning to attend Camp Woodruff in Northern Georgia.
Aaron is the son of Tammy Strauss, Ormond Beach and Marco Island Firefighter Ray Ladurini. His sister Christina and brother Casey are extremely proud of their older brother. He is also the grandson of Betty and Ron Strauss former residents of Marco Island.
