Bobby Nichols fired a 6-under-par 66 at the Marco Island Country Club to win the 1971 Tony Lema Memorial Pro-Am golf tournament. Nichols’ 66 tied the course record established by Randy Glover in 1968. Nichols, who for a time owned a home in Lely with his wife, Nancy, and sons, was the pro at the storied Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Nichols won the PGA Championship title in 1964.
