During Bobby Joseph's deployment to Afghanistan, his unit had trouble with some Afghanis, whom the Marines called "cockroaches," pelting them with rocks. Joseph wrote a letter to a mentor, who mailed him every slingshot and ball bearing he could find. Within two days, there were no more rock attacks. Joseph sent a postcard and a Polaroid to thank the man. The Polaroid shows Joseph wearing a helmet and goggles. There's a rocket launcher on his right shoulder, an M240G machine gun in his left hand, a bandoleer draped across the gun. Out of his back pocket hangs a slingshot. "I'm Ready For Anything," Joseph wrote on the bottom of the picture.
