Ian Orlikoff with Signature Tree Care of Naples stands perched on the branches of a Live Oak tree at the University of Florida Collier County extension office on Thursday, Sept. 15th, as he cuts down branches in order develop the canopy of the tree in the direction it should go. Ed Gilman, with the University of Florida agricultural studies department, has helped facilitate the shaping of the Live Oak. "Trees are stronger when they have one trunk," he explains to a group of participants of a day-long seminar that explained tree growth, tree types and tree problems last week.
