Demolition started this morning on landmark buildings at Naples' Four Corners -- where U.S. 41 South meets U.S. 41 East. The main structure, a former cafeteria, most recently was the Rock-A-By baby accessories shop. To the east are buildings that used to host men's and women's clothing stores. The western part of the property is perhaps the most famous -- the empty lot that used to feature a Gulf gas station on the northeast quadrant of the Four Corners. Workers at the site today referred questions about the future of the site to the owner, Neapolitan Enterprises, where an office worker this morning said the official authorized to talk to the press was not available. In the past few years the city of Naples has discussed making the property a park in conjunction with a Four Corners makeover as part of an eastward extension of Fifth Avenue South.
