A computer screen with x-rays gives information about the positioning of implants while Dr. Frederick Buechel Jr. performs a partial knee replacement surgery on an 80-year-old patient using the RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System. With use of the robot, allignment is less than one millimeter different from the natural anatomy of the knee, said Buechel. Physicians Regional Medical Center at Pine Ridge purchased the technology in October at the request of Buechel, a Naples orthopedic surgeon who is certified to use the robotic system.
