Bonnie Stout Schooley, top, of Fort Myers, comforts her husband, Orland Jack Schooley, 89, bottom, of Fort Myers, during a Memorial Day service in Riverside Park in Bonita Springs on Monday, May 31, 2010. Schooley served as a tail gunner in the Air Force aboard a B-24 bomber and was the only survivor in his crew of nine after being shot down over Germany. He was captured by the Germans and spend 9 months was a prisoner of war. Monday's Memorial Day event in Riverside Park, sponsored by American Legion John E. Schafer Post 388, the John F. Murphy Post 303 and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4254 paid tribute to military veterans and honored the memories of those who have sacrificed their lives in military service for the United States.
