Collier County transportation officials are considering a long term goal of elevating a portion of Collier Boulevard with an approximate $41 million overpass at U.S. 41 East to relieve any traffic congestion in case of the need to evacuate the nearly 15,000 full-time Marco Island residents as well as address growth anticipated by 2030. A shorter term project, costing about $17 million, could address the skewed lanes at the intersection as early as 2013-14.
