Toll Collector Recima Jean Francois, cetner, works at the booths entering Alligator Alley in Naples on Feb. 16, 2011. Florida's Turnpike Authority is starting to phase out toll collectors at toll booths. Starting on Saturday, the Turnpike's 47 miles in Miami-Dade County will have no more cash toll booths. They are establishing Toll-by-Plate, which is an electronic toll collection system that uses photographic images of a vehicle's license plate to identify the customer responsible for payment. It's similar to the SunPass electronic toll collection system, but without a transponder device. SunPass customers will be able to continue to use their transponders and pay less for the tolls.
