Donna Slattery, center, uses the letter pieces from the game Upwords, to keep her mother's partner, Charlie Calviello, 76, occupied. Calviello suffers from Alzheimer's. He's lost his long term and short term memory. Slattery, from New York, originally planned to be in Naples for only 10 days back in March, but after her mother became ill, Slattery postponed her trip home indefinitely to be the caregiver for her mother and Charlie. AARP released a report Monday that said 42 million Americans are caregivers and the estimated economic impact was $450 billion in 2009, up from $375 billion two years earlier. Greg Kahn/Staff
