Volunteers paint signs at the Coalition of Immokalee Workers that will be used in a street theater production this weekend as CIW will send up to 200 people to Tampa to protest in front of a variety of Publix grocery stores. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers are heading to downtown Tampa for a protest march Saturday demanding that Publix join a growing partnership among farmworkers. For more than two years, CIW has been demanding that Publix improve working conditions for tomato pickers by adopting a code of conduct that would include a zero tolerance on slavery and for the grocery chain to engage in a conversation directly with the coalition.
