Venerable Kunchok Sangey, a Tibetan monk from the Gaden Shartse Monastery located in a Tibetan refugee settlement in Mundgod, India, works on creating a mandala out of colored sand at Unity of Naples church in East Naples on Monday afternoon. The group of monks will work on creating the sand mandala over four days to help raise awareness for Tibetan culture, bring attention to China's oppressive governance of the Tibetan people and spread a message of world peace, harmony, compassion and tolerance. Construction of the mandala is expected to end on Thursday and it will be on display until Saturday morning, when it will be taken to Lowdermilk Park in Naples for a 'Mandala Dissolution Ceremony' - allowing the wind to dissolve the mandala and carry the sand into the Gulf of Mexico. The process of constructing the mandala, as well as nightly events at Unity of Naples throughout the week, is open to the public.
