Nurse Yaimis Cruz, left, readies the robotic system that will be used in the hip replacement surgery performed by Dr. Jon Dounchis on Tuesday. The system, made by MAKO Surgical, allows him to shave/resurface the hip socket and then place a shell fitting of some nature so when the hip joint is put in, there is reduced likelihood of dislodging. Dounchis has been part of a study group for MAKO. The system also uses a CAT scan of the diseased hip so there is precise fit of the implant. Scott McIntyre/Staff
