Sam Geist, left, of Bonita Springs, carries the Torah Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 on Strike Lane near the Chabad Jewish Center in Bonita Springs, Fla. Dozens came out to honor the new Torah scroll that was completed in honor of Rachel Pinson's life -- Rabbi Mendy Greenburg's mother-in-law and wife of Rabbi Nochem Pinson's wife. This scroll, which takes about a year to complete, was hand written by a skillful scribe on parchment. All 300,000 letters were written exactly the way it has been done for over 3000 years. It was completed last week in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tonight also coincidentally marked the Upshernish -- Yiddish for to shear or cut off -- for Meyer Greenberg, a coming-of-age celebration for a three year-old boy. Small Peyos -- side locks -- of hair were cut by his family, friends and members of the temple. People flew in from several states to attend the celebrations. 'No words can describe what it is because it's allowing people to pray and express (themselves),' Geist said.
