Palmetto Ridge's Carlos Miranda, 18, is the boys cross country runner of the year. Miranda has been running since the 8th grade. In only his second race, he won competing against various middle schools in Collier County. He still holds the county record for 8th graders in the 3000 meter run. The rest is history. He's been region champion the last three years and placed 3rd and 23rd the last two years at state competition. He's signing this February to run for the University of Florida and is undecided about his major. His fastest mile is 4:13 and 5K (3.1 miles) 15:07. 'Running has taught me to be humble, appreciate everything I have,'Miranda said. 'Because not everyone can run at an elite level -- I appreciate the gift that I have.'
