Scott McIntyre/Staff Gemma, a golden retriever therapy dog, rests as she is introduced to dementia patients at Moorings Park, a retirement community in Naples Park. Gemma is one of many therapy dogs who are a part of the Brody Project, a nonprofit in Naples that pairs therapy dogs with patients to meet longterm recovery goals. Unlike therapy dogs that visit patients sporadically in hospitals and nursing homes, the Brody Project uses dogs to get dementia patients to socialize and to make patients with mobility issues more willing to perform walking exercises, etc.
