Diana Pagach of the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island explains the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program to Tommie Barfield students. The Kiwanis Club takes part in the  program by providing high interest, free, fiction and non-fiction books to encourage students to read at a young age.  They provide more than 2,100 books a year to Tommie Barfield and 2,400  at Manatee Elementary School. The federal government cut RIF funding, leaving the Kiwanis Club looking to see if it can make it up to keep the local reading program strong.
