Chief Walter Kopka of Collier County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) awards Lt. Diane Smith the Emergency Medical Service Award on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, during the 2013 Distinguished Public Service Awards at the Naples Hilton. Smith began her paramedic career in 2003 with Collier EMS. In addition to her role in EMS, Smith is also an active member of Florida Disaster Medical Assistance Team, made up of professionals from different disciplines that offer expertise and medical assistance during significant events and the aftermath of major disasters. The Distinguished Public Service Awards were developed by the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce and Naples Daily News in an effort to honor the men and women who sacrifice to protect our community for outstanding professionalism and public service rendered by those in law enforcement, fire safety, emergency medical services, and support services.
