Gaurdians and veterans make their way to security Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. A group of about 50 local World War II veterans were selected to take part in the bi-annual Southwest Florida Honor Flight. The organization provided a free flight to visit national war memorials. The group left via Southwest Airlines at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at Reagan International Airport over two hours later in Washington, D.C. They visit the World War II, Korean War and the Iwo Jima Memorials. Airfare and food for the veterans was covered through donations; escorts, called guardians, paid for their own airfare.
