A parade of history: Fourth of July
Six-year-old Matthew Lee of Cape Coral guards his sand castle Monday while waiting for the sand castle judging to take place during the Fourth of July celebration on Residents' Beach. The beach party, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, featured a Bikini contest, volleyball and horseshoe matches, food, music and fireworks.

Rob Storter (1894-1987) sketched these boat races on July 4th in Chokoloskee. Many of his pictures with notes about what he remembered growing up in Everglades are part of the Storter Collection at the Collier County Museum.
