  • Bob Allen during World War II. Although he admits the Great Depression was a difficult time, he offers the sage advice to families today: 'Don't buy anything you don't understand, like hedge funds.'
  • Al Stickles was just 7 during the 1929 crash. He says he and his siblings were well-cared for and, as youngsters, weren't aware of what was happening across the country.
  • Henriette Rosenak and her husband were married in 1933. Rosenak admits that she didn't feel the effects of the Great Depression until she got married and her husband couldn't find a job.
  • Henriette Rosenak, left, and her son David at her 95th birthdat celebration earlier this year. Henriette recalls spending 35 cents to go swimming with her husband during the Depression, which was a sum she thought they couldn't afford.
  • Bob Allen, as a child, grew up during the Depression. Everything in his life was effected by the family's struggle to make money, and even had to repair his own shoes.
