  • On Monday, Glenn Tucker will serve as a City Council member in his last regular meeting after 10 years. Tucker is the council's longest-serving councilor, though he admits that he would not have run for his final term if he could rewrite history.

  • This is a photo of a work in progress, not the dog, but Canine Cove, the dog park on Marco tucked into a corner of Mackle Park. Islander Tim Burke is the winner of the $50 U.S. Savings Bond for being first of many entries to identify the location of this gorgeous dog in last week’s Marcophiles column. We didn’t require the winner to identify the dog by name. She (the dog) shies from publicity, apparently getting that trait from her reclusive owners.

  • Work has started on the long-anticipated Marco Island Historical Museum, situated next to the library on Heathwood Drive. The $4.5 million project will feature a three-building complex surrounded by water, and designed to look like a Calusa Indian village. Historical society members are hoping for a fall of 2009 completion date.
