  • Marco Island police Captain Dave Baer and officer Paul Keys presented information on the new mobile equipment in officers' police cars. The mobile offices make a police cruiser a bit cramped, but give much-needed tools, Keys said at Monday's council meeting. The cars now include cellphone, cameras, magnetic license reader, cup holder, a VHF radio, a 800 MHZ radio and a printer-- in addition to laptops.
  • Trophies were given to the 2009 winners of Aquafina's Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run including Oliver Wasem, Jay Vanderjagt, Jordan Barrett and Devin Noel. These winners advanced to the sectional competition on May 16 in Fort Myers, where Noel placed first place in the 13-14-year-old age group.
  • City environmental specialist Nancy Richie and iguana trapper Chris Harlow explain why they believe the iguana trapping program should continue. Councilors agreed at their meeting Monday.
  • City employee of the month, administrative assistant Sandy Schildhorn, receives thanks from Chairman Rob Popoff and City Manager Steve Thompson at Monday's council meeting.
  • Howie Jordan releases a pitch from a portable mound in a Cal Ripken Baseball game at Winterberry Park earlier this season. The make-shift mound was used on the park’s softball diamond for youth baseball. On Monday night the City Council approved funding for a true Little League diamond at the park.
