Jane Watt, Tara Hagan and Lynne Irvine, members of the non-profit Marco Island Discovery Center, prepare to request support from Marco's Planning Board Friday for their proposed charter high school. Fay Biles, far right, who serves on an FGCU advisory board had said FGCU is interested in sponsoring the Marco charter high school but the group said they had not yet had the opportunity to meet with FGCU to confirm their interest level and need the University to confirm or deny it so they may move on to get sponsorship from another college if needed.

Islanders learn about the bigger plans surrounding the initiative for a Marco Island charter high school June 25 at Marco Island Charter Middle School and at a Planning Board meeting Friday. Plans now include the Marco Island Academy as well as a summer eco-adventure camp and Marco Island Discovery Center, a center for sustainable living and education of all ages. Marco Island Discovery Center is also the name of the non-profit working on developing a charter high school on the Island. Finding land is the next challenge.
