Erin Homuth, 12, a current Marco Island Charter Middle School student, and niece of charter high school proponent Tara Hagan, says she won't go to Lely High School. It's either this planned charter high school as presented by the new non-profit, Marco Island Discovery Inc., or a private school in Naples, Seacrest Country Day School, because she likes small, individualized classes, she says. Islanders learn about the bigger plans surrounding the initiative for a Marco Island charter high school June 25 at Marco Island Charter Middle School and at a Planning Board meeting Friday. Plans now include the Marco Island Academy as well as a summer eco-adventure camp and Marco Island Discovery Center, a center for sustainable living and education of all ages. Marco Island Discovery Center is also the name of the non-profit working on developing a charter high school on the Island. Finding land is the next challenge.
