Build-a-bear for Boys and Girls Club

The event provided an opportunity for the club members to make a bear that would be shipped to kids in Haiti. Tyler has been attending the club for two years and enjoys the many activities and the assistance with homework that the club provides.   • Chief professional officer of the Boys and Girls Club, Debra Liftig, and Brittany Brown, the extension director at Palmetto Court, show off the autographed bear signed by the 19 kids attending Build-A-Bear. The autographed bear will be a memento for the Boys and Girls club at Palmetto Court to help remind them of all the wonderful bears that they created for kids in Haiti. Brown, a 21 year old student at FGCU, has worked with the Palmetto Court Boys and Girls Club since September and was the creative mind behind this event. Liftig said that the Boys and Girls Club was excited about Brittany’s idea and glad to grant funds for the kids to be able to build the bears. / MATT MILLIGAN, BANNER CORRESPONDENT

  • The Lee County Boys and Girls Club of Palmetto Court show off their newly created bears ready to be shipped to Haiti. Each of the 19 kids attending the event at Coconut Point Build-A-Bear store selected a bear, helped stuff it, placed a heart inside, and picked a special outfit. Every bear comes with a birth certificate stating it’s name that was chosen by the child who created it. The kids from the boys and girls club also made cards and picture frames to send along with the bears. / MATT MILLIGAN, BANNER CORRESPONDENT
