Cortney Polin, 21, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, takes a break between classes to smoke in one of the designated smoking areas on campus Thursday. "We're all adults and we pay to go to school here, we should be able to smoke on campus," said Poling. A civic engagement class at FGCU, headed up by professor Wayne Robinson, has shaped its service project around campaigning to ban smoking from campus. Robinson said surveys conducted by his class last semester show that students at FGCU are roundly in favor of banning smoking, but also said university administrators are reluctant to institute a ban. Currently, smoking is allowed in a few smoking stations on the FGCU campus. Lexey Swall/Staff
