Large blooming Poincianas became a landmark of the past Wednesday as Marco's Park and Rec department ordered two of three of the trees, which were planted decades ago by neighbors to the park, be cut down.

The southern blooming trees of Mackle Park were removed by the city without warning Wednesday. The park's neighbors say they learned of the Royal Poinciana's fate when they were startled by the roaring of chainsaws.
