Rare Leatherback Turtle is back!

A 500 pound plus Leatherback Turtle which came ashore uncharacteristically on a Naples beach on Monday made an appearance on Big Hickory Island in Bonita Springs Tuesday and was rescued by the Lee County Department of Natural Resources marine division and Turtle Time. The turtle will be driven to Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota for evaluation and rehabilitation if needed. David Albers/Staff

A rare for this region Leatherback Turtle which appeared on a Naples Beach Monday has reappeared on Big Hickory Island before being rescued by the Lee County Department of Natural Resources marine division and Turtle Time.
