Neapolitans sweet on cupcake craze

Gracie Bolen, pastry baker and owner Gracie of Gracie's Cupcakes & Ice Cream, opened her first store in March 2009. Since then her business has grown and her cupcakes are in local stores and restaurants around town, Bolen also caters to weddings, business events and parties.

Since opening Glasgow's business has been booming with catering gigs, weddings and special events. Anna Ellis, right, is the lead baker at Simply Cupcakes and has been working with Glasgow for 10 months.

Pastry Chef Tara Lumley, right, joined Harrison almost a year ago to help keep up with the demand for Sassy Cakes.
  • Bayah Harrison is part-owner of Sassy Cakes on 837 South Fourth Street in Naples. Harrison began Sassy Cakes in July 2009 with her business partner. They decided on this new business venture because Harrison always had a knack for baking, selling her cupcakes at farmers markets, events and giving them away as gifts. Harrison baked cupcakes in a church kitchen before opening her own store front.

Naples has gotten into the cupcake game with Gracie’s, Sassy Cakes and Simply Cupcakes. The three local bakeries have their own special flavors, fillings, decorations and twists.
