Collier deputies investigate shooting at Sugden Park

Park officials seal the entrance to Sugden Regional Park in East Naples following a shooting Friday evening that involved a Collier County Sheriff's deputy. According to Collier County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, Karie Partington, Cpl. Erin Flater, 29, a four-year veteran of the Collier County Sheriff's Office and a patrol deputy in East Naples, shot herself in the chest shortly before 6 p.m. following a discussion with an unnamed person about 'breaking up.' Partington said that Flater was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for surgery. An investigation is currently underway and no further details were available.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sugden Park after an off-duty deputy shot her self in the chest on Friday night. Cpl. Erin Flater, 29, was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital where she died.
