Charter girls race to second in county championships

Charter School's Christy Thorstenson has the successful final kick that earns her the victory in the 400 meter run, with teammate Lauren Hanscom, second from right, racing to third in the Collier County Athletic Conference Middle School Championships on Saturday.

Tanner Fulcher, Charter School's only boy qualifier, took the early lead before finishing fourth in the Collier County Athletic Conference Middle School Championships on Saturday.

Both runners strain near the finish line as baton hand offs in the 4x400 team relay caused lost seconds which in the end didn't give Charter's Christy Thorstenson enough time to catch the Gulfview runner for first place in the Collier County Athletic Conference Middle School  Championships on Saturday at Golden Gate High School.

Hey wait a minute, competing in the Collier County Athletic Conference Middle School Championships is supposed to be serious business. Well, not at this moment, as Jen Carter, left and Rosie Poling make loosening up for the 3200 meter run a bit light hearted. They were all business in the race, with Poling winning and Carter third against a very strong field. Although outnumbered, the Charter School team still raced to a second place finish overall.

Heart.
That is the best way to describe the effort of Marco Island Charter Middle School’s eight girls who did battle on Saturday in the Collier County Athletic Conference Middle School Championships.
